• deputy director of the Department of Clinical Microbiology, General Hospital Vienna

• member of several domestic and international societies and working parties (microbiology and gastroenterology)

• founding member of the European Helicobacter pylori Study Group in 1987; general secretary and main organizer of the XIth International Workshop of Gastroduodenal Pathology and Helicobacter pylori, Budapest 1998; treasurer of the EHSG since 2001; president of the EHSG 2003/2004 and organizer of the XVII International Workshop of the EHSG, Vienna 2004

• fields of research: Helicobacter pylori (diagnosis, pathogenesis, epidemiology), Chlamydia pneumoniae (diagnosis, pathogenesis), bacterial resistance and molecular diagnostic methods
