• 1977- present - Responsible for the undergraduate teaching of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterolgy of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Faculdade de Ciências Médicas, and Director of the Clínica Universitária de Medicina Interna e Gastrenterologia, at the Hospital de Pulido Valente.

• 1977 - 1991 - Member of the board of the Centro de Gastrenterologia of the Universidade de Lisboa and of the Instituto Nacional de Investigaçção Científica (INIC), and responsible for a research line on "Gastritis, Ulcer and Gastric Cancer".

• 1992-present - Director of the Centro de Gastrenterologia of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, with several lines of research.

• 1979 - present - President of the Núcleo de Estudos da Úlcera Péptica (NEUP), research in gastric pathology.

• 1980-1982 - Member of the Comissão Instaladora and Conselho Administrativo of the Faculdade de Ciências Médicas, Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
